Favor through Patience

The Kingdom overwhelms everything in the world. We should practice that.

2 Thessalonians 3:16 says, “May the Lord of peace Himself continually grant you peace in every circumstance.” It’s in the Bible! If you are a Bible believer, then you have got to practice it.

If you don’t practice the truth, you don’t believe it. If you don’t practice the Word, you don’t know it because in the Bible knowledge and experience are one and the same thing. God doesn’t want you to know stuff in your head. He wants you to know stuff in your heart and through your life, through your eyes, through the way you see people, the way you talk to people, the way you walk around this world. He wants you to have experiences with Him that touch people around you. He is granting you peace in every circumstance so turn to your neighbor and say, “That means you!”

What about patience? He has allocated patience to us in all those situations. I have people in my life whose role seems to be to empower me to become patient. 2 Timothy 2:24 says, “The Lord’s bondservant must not be quarrelsome but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged.” When we are wronged, we all want to defend ourselves. We want to let everyone know that we have been wronged. The Bible says why don’t you practice patience?

Romans 15:5 says,”May the God who allocates, who gives patience and encouragement grant you to be of the same mind.” God is giving you encouragement and patience in all of your circumstances.

Here’s the thing with us: We are more clued in to the way the world works than we are to the way heaven works. The Bible says we are citizens of Heaven living here on earth, we are in the world, we are not of it. So at some point we have got to stop taking our cues for life from the world around us because the world around us has got nothing to teach us about living properly with Jesus.  So we are taking our cues from the Kingdom of Heaven because you are a citizen of Heaven living here on earth. That means you are an altogether different proposition, and things are available to you that are not available to people in the world. The Lord wants you to be overwhelmed and be full of those things so that the world can catch the overflow so that you walking into someone’s life can make a difference just by being there. You can bring the peace of God. You can bring the joy of the Lord. You can bring the love of God into someone’s life because you are overflowing with the presence of Jesus and that is what it means to be made in His image. It’s an overcoming lifestyle.

This is 1 Peter 2:20, “For what credit is there if when you sin and are harshly treated you endure it with patience? But if when you do what is right and suffer for it and you patiently endure it, this finds favor with God.

So when there is some unjust thing going on in your life, the Lord is saying, “Don’t take retribution on a natural level.” If you will take on board patience, and patiently endure it, then His favor will actually come into your life and circumstances, and He will sort it out better than you could possibly imagine.
