Understanding Grace

Grace gives us a massive confidence to trust in the fullness of God’s heart towards us. You’re going to be overwhelmed by the grace of God. When you’re doing well, you’ll be overwhelmed by the grace of God. When you’re doing badly, you’ll be overwhelmed by the grace of God. When you’re doing really, really sovereignly badly, you will be overwhelmed by the grace of God because the grace of God is overwhelming regardless.

It’s like the sea, it’s like the ocean. If you’re standing there in a tuxedo, you will be overwhelmed by the ocean. If you’re standing there in clothes that you haven’t washed for six weeks, you will be overwhelmed by the ocean. Whatever you’re wearing, you can be out there with a crown on your head, you’re going to be overwhelmed by the ocean. Grace is like that. You’re going to get filled, you’re going to get swamped, you’re going to get overwhelmed whatever you’re in, whatever you’re doing, however you are living, you’re going to get overwhelmed by grace. Grace is going to reign. It’s going to reign when you’re sinful. It’s going to reign when you’re being brilliant. Grace reigns. That’s it, full stop. Grace reigns because that’s the way God likes it, and I kind of think that if anyone is going to make the rules, it’s probably going to be Him!

Grace reigns no matter what. Where sin abounds, grace does much more abound. That doesn’t give us a reason to sin, but it gives us an expectation that if I’ve been defeated, I can rise again. Grace reigns in life through righteousness. Grace will always draw us back to righteousness. The fascinating thing is grace will not condemn us, it will draw us back to righteousness.
